I love to shop but I don’t consider myself a shop-a-holic. When I do splurge, I usually go for value over price. Why? I want to get my money’s worth; I’ve become money-conscience, just like everybody else.
Fellow Twitterer –The Budget Fashionista–shares her thoughts on the economy in one of her recent blog posts. She names Wal-Mart as one of the hottest new stores for the best bargains. I agree that Wal-Mart has the lowest prices but, I’m not so convinced about shopping there for clothes.
Retailers are noticing the new trends and profitable opportunities with social media. Name brand stores like T.J. Maxx, Urban Outfitters, American Apparel, and Nordstrom are among the top retailers on Twitter. Using Twitter as a direct line to reach out to customers gives these companies innovative advantages when promoting store sales while driving customers to their website. I’m surprised that big name retailers like Victoria’s Secret hasn’t jumped on the bandwagon yet. I wonder why? Maybe not everyone sees social media as a way to keep customers coming back.
It’s vital for retailers to be fashion-forward and in real-time. Imagine getting an IM vs. an e-mail from your favorite store. Well, that’s how Twitter works. It’s all about real-time promotion and product placement while increasing brand buzz. My favorite store; New York & Company keeps track of my purchases and sends me online coupons weekly. Once I go into their store to make a purchase, I get one more coupon with savings that makes me want to come back again, and again. I would probably visit their store more frequently if I knew when they were having a sale. My advice to NY & CO. –and similar companies –send me and the rest of your loyal and techno-savvy consumers a tweet to remind me about their sales, I might become their number one shopper.
